Get to Know: Demario Davis

Demario Davis was drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Arkansas State, where he won a Sun Belt Conference title. That win, he said, was his best football memory.

In his second season as a pro last year, Davis had a spike in production, registering 100-plus tackles. He was one of only two Jets to record more than 1,200 plays on defense and special teams combined.

When he was a kid, Demario played basketball, baseball and track in addition to football.

Davis has one career interception, a diving pick he recorded in last season's win over New Orleans. During the offseason, he worked on his coverage skills in order to become more instinctive at his position: "Being an instinctive linebacker is something that I've had to work hard on this offseason. I'm trying to make that my strength. Being an instinctive linebacker and play maker has to be my best asset."

Demario loves his wife's cooking, saying that his favorite meals are anything his wife makes in the kitchen.

Demario is a spiritual guy and is one of the vocal leaders of the defense. To get himself ready, he listens to soothing music before games: "I'm usually listening to some type of worship music, trying to get my mind and my spirit aligned with God."

Demario had two sacks last week, a big jump for the third-year player. In his previous 33 games, he had just one. His goal by the end of the year is to make it to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.

When he's not on the playing field or watching extra film, Demario said he's either playing Madden or NBA 2K. If he's not doing that, he's hanging out with his wife and daughter.

Demario is a cousin of the late Steve McNair, a former NFL QB for the Tennessee Titans.
