Get to Know: Greg Salas
10 Things You Might Not Know About Greg Salas

Greg was a fourth-round pick (No. 112 overall) of the St. Louis Rams in 2011, where he caught 27 balls and 264 yards as a rookie.Â

He made his debut with the Jets on Nov. 3 last year against New Orleans, catching two passes for 57 yards in a 26-20 win.Â

He recorded a career-long 44-yard reception against the Sainst that set up a Nick Folk field goal. Â

Before the Jets signed him last season, Salas was a member of the Eagles practice squad and will return to Philadelphia on Thursday: "I kinda was just a guy that was there and played well and made a few plays in training camp. I'm just looking to go back and do well."

He's often typecast as a slot receiver, but he says that's not a fair representation of his skills: "Inside or outside, I'm good at both, not necessarily one or the other." He made a name for himself playing in the slot at Hawaii, but the way that offensive system works, the slot receiver is the No. 1 option.Â

In his last collegiate season, Salas recorded 120 or more yards in 10 of 14 games, including 214 yards in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl in 2010.Â

He visits Hawaii twice a year for "extended vacations" with his girlfriend and her parents. He considers Hawaii his second home.Â

Even though other receivers are his competition for a roster spot, Salas said the depth of the position is a positive thing for the Green & White: "Any time you have a deep team, it's going to benefit you if someone goes down. Injuries are a part of the game. Having people who are able to step up and take over roles for a period of time in order to get the team over the hump is big."

He's trusted by offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who said that Salas has some of the surest hands in the league: "(Greg) has performed at a high level and on a consistent basis as well, and so that's certainly what we're looking for. He has sure hands, he does everything right, typically, and he's a talented guy."

Despite a 35 receptions and 407 yards, Salas has not found the end zone in a regular season game.Â
