Positional Storylines: DB

Joe Danna, after coaching in the college and NFL ranks the past seven years, is reunited with Todd Bowles. The two coached for the Miami Dolphins when Danna served as Bowles' defensive backs assistant in 2010-11.

Daylon McCutcheon, a former standout cornerback for seven seasons with Cleveland, joins Todd Bowles, who coached him with the Browns from 2001-04. McCutcheon finished his NFL career with 12 interceptions, 7 sacks and 424 tackles.

"This is where my heart is," said Darrelle Revis upon his return. "When I got drafted in 2007, the GM then was Mike Tannenbaum and I told him I would do everything in my power to try to bring a championship to this organization and I still feel that way."

Along with the return of Darrelle Revis, the Jets looked to strengthen the defensive backfield by re-signing Antonio Cromartie. Cromartie, a ballhawk with 31 career interceptions, brings a wealth of knowledge of the new defensive scheme having just played for Todd Bowles in Arizona.

The Jets wasted no time on the first day of free agency in signing corner Buster Skrine, who showcased his talents with the Browns for four seasons and finished his Cleveland career with 47 pass defenses and 6 interceptions.

Former 2014 first-round draft pick Calvin Pryor played in all 16 games last season with 11 starts and finished the season with 67 tackles. He said he's excited to be playing at his natural strong safety position and feels he'll make an impact this season: "I'm playing my natural position. I'm back to doing what I do in the box. It's been pretty easy for me, for the most part."

Another huge signing for the Jets this offseason was defensive back Marcus Gilchrist. After undergoing shoulder surgery, Gilchrist is expected to be ready for training camp. He has a knack for being around the ball after tallying 17 pass defenses and five interceptions in four seasons with the San Diego Chargers.

"I'm doing great, I'm coming along good," Dee Milliner said about his Achilles while addressing the media after an OTA practice this spring. "I should be good by training camp, I shouldn't have a red jersey on, I should be fine."

"I don't know if there are surprise players, guys I didn't know as well in a different conference. Just consistency wise, Marcus Williams and Darrin Walls have been very consistent with their approach and they have very good instincts,"  said Todd Bowles after a spring practice while talking with the media. "That just stood out from what I saw this spring."

Both Antonio Allen and Jaiquawn Jarrett are no strangers to friendly competition, the two have been working hard to make the most of their opportunities. Last season, Allen saw playing time at safety and cornerback, and finished the season with 118 tackles and 2.5 sacks. In week 10 of the 2014 season, Jarrett had a career game against the Steelers, racking up two interceptions, one forced fumble and a sack and receiving AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Training camp has always been a breeding ground for competition and opportunities. The Jets have a foursome of undrafted free agents on the roster in Curtis Browns, Durell Eskridge, Keith Lewis, and Rontez Miles. Miles, the 2014 Ed Block Courage Award winner, looks to bounce back from Compartment Syndrome that kept him out of late-season action. Brown, Eskridge and Lewis are trying to establish names for themselves as they head into training camp.
