Training Camp: Week In Review

Head coach Rex Ryan and Co. arrived on the campus of SUNY Cortland on a wet Wednesday afternoon before the first day of practice. 

Cortland President Erik J. Bitterbaum, left, and Rex Ryan officially opened training camp on Thursday, July 24 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. 

As they do every morning, the defensive line arrived to the practice field together in an effort to promote unity amongst its members, according to LB Quinton Coples, No. 98.

Embracing his role as a veteran on the team, QB Michael Vick, right, helped rookie QB Tajh Boyd with his chin strap on the first day of training camp. 

Running backs Chris Johnson, left, and Chris Ivory may have different approaches in playing the position, but similar hair styles have led to the tandem's nickname, "The Two-Dreaded Monster."

Free agent signing Eric Decker made his presence felt immediately on the first day of camp, grabbing nearly every ball thrown his way. QB Michael Vick had some nice words to say about the Jets wide receiver: "He's going to help Geno a lot. He's going to help this offense get better week in and week out and do some good things on this football team."

The New York Jets have begun their fifth training camp at SUNY Cortland. In the regular season following a camp spent in central New York, the team has posted an overall record of 34-30, including two seasons in which the team reached the AFC Championship Game. 

In an effort to cut down on penalties and to promote unity for the team, every penalty called during team drills results in everyone—coaches and staff included—doing 10 pushups. 

On the second day of camp, LB Jason Babin arrived after signing his contract. Babin will provide a boost to the Jets pass-rush as he's recorded 62.5 sacks in his 10 seasons. LB David Harris said he's looking forward to Babin's contributions to the defense: "I know Jason is a skilled pass rusher. He can help us out a lot. He's a veteran and he's had a lot of success in this league. And his presence will be welcomed."

There's more than just football at the New York Jets training camp. In addition to Jets Fest, Gen Jets Kids Club members have the opportunity to receive autographs from their favorite players in a kids-only autograph area. 

Guards Oday Aboushi, left, and Brian Winters completed an offensive line drill together. The two men entered camp in a competition for the left guard position. 

The pads came on for the first time on Friday in the New York Jets' third practice of training camp. RB Chris Ivory, with ball, was finally able to showcase his bruising style in practice. 

Fourth-round pick WR Shaq Evans hauled in a long ball thrown by fellow rookie QB Tajh Boyd during Saturday's practice, which received plenty of recognition from fans in attendance. QB Geno Smith called the play "phenomenal" after practice.

On Sunday, veteran guard Willie Colon was removed from the Active/PUP list and participated in positional drills with the team. Colon underwent two surgeries this offseason.
