Biography
DAVID SOCIE is in his eighth year with the Jets after returning to the organization in 2018 as the senior director, football administration. His primary responsibilities include offering support to General Manager Joe Douglas and Jets staff in matters regarding player contracts, the team's salary cap, the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and NFL Rules. He previously served in this role with the Jets during the 2006 season.
Before rejoining the Jets, Socie worked at the National Football League office for over seven years. In that time, he served as the director and then senior director of labor operations in the NFL Management Council. His responsibilities included advising club executives on player contracts, the salary cap, the CBA and NFL Rules. He also oversaw the approval process of all player contracts, monitored Clubs' compliance with the salary cap and participated in the CBA negotiation process.
Socie was an associate in the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer, and Feld, LLP, in Washington, D.C., from 1997-2006. He provided extensive legal representation of the NFL Management Council and NFL Clubs on matters involving player contracts, the CBA, and NFL Rules, including numerous arbitration proceedings.
Socie began his NFL career as a scouting intern with the Buffalo Bills in 1991-92. After working as a sports producer at WIVB-TV in Buffalo, NY in 1992-94, he continued his NFL career as a law clerk with the NFL Management Council in 1996-97.
Born in Buffalo, NY, Socie is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo and St. John's University School of Law. He is a member of the New York State Bar.
