QB Aaron Rodgers: 'Not Going to Beat Anybody Scoring 6 Points'

Jets Offense Moves the Ball, but Goes 0 of 3 in the Red Zone

Long drives on offense with little to show made for a long afternoon for QB Aaron Rodgers and the Jets' offense against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, AZ, a 31-6 loss on Sunday afternoon.

After a strong second half and three TD drives 10 days ago in a win over Houston, the Jets (3-7) did score on their first two possessions against the Cardinals (6-4) but garnered only 6 points on a pair of field goals. They put together four long drives -- of 10, 11, 12 and 15 plays -- but only got the pair of 3-pointers.

"After a big win Thursday night [21-13 over the Texans], nice long week, thought we're going to come out with a lot of energy and win the game," said Rodgers, who was 22 of 35 for 151 yards. "And then we just, we didn't come out with great energy on the other side of the ball. And offensively, you're not going to beat anybody scoring 6 points."

Rodgers and the Jets' offense did not find the space to complete a pass of longer than 15 yards. Trailing 24-6, they got 14 yards on a catch-and-run by Breece Hall in the third quarter to the Arizona 18-yard line. The Jets moved to the 3-yard line on that drive, but a third down pass intended for Davante Adams, Rodgers' long-time teammate in Green Bay, went through his hands in the end zone.

"So I've tried to try to work with him, and make sure to keep his mind right as much as possible because it's tough," Adams said. "I mean it's hard. If Michael Jordan was on his team, he wouldn't be happy. So, you can look at it however you want with that, but you're not supposed to be happy when things aren't going great, but you do have to try to dig deep and find a way to fix it and that's what we're trying to do now."

On fourth down, Rodgers was hit hard and fumbled the ball, walking off the field holding his right arm.

"They called from upstairs and said I had to get checked out by the unaffiliated neuro person," Rodgers said.

He spent some time in the blue tent being examined for a possible concussion but returned to the field on the next series.

"I just wanted to stay aggressive, we were in a hole," interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said about his decision to not attempt a field goal and go for it on fourth down.

Commenting on the absence of long-gainers, other than 4 passes that went for 12 yards and 2 for 14 yards, Ulbrich said: "We did a good job sustaining drives early, we knew that would be the key to victory this week. We just didn't finish in the red zone [0 of 3]."

The Cardinals' defense limited the Jets to 55 plays and 207 total net yards (3.8 yds/play) and 79 yards on 17 running plays (4.6 yds/att). The Jets' two most dangerous wide receivers -- Garrett Wilson (5 catches on 6 targets for 41 yards) and Adams (6 catches on 13 targets for 31 yards) -- were mostly held in check by the Arizona secondary.

"You know, we had a few chances," Rodgers said. "Missed the spot a couple times, didn't think we handled the noise and the empty pressure that they brought up very well." Rodgers was sacked 3 times and hit 5 times.

While the Jets were trying to win back-to-back games for the second time this season, the defeat to the Cardinals was the second time the Green & White came off a win on "Thursday Night Football" and followed it with a loss. In Week 3 the Jets defeated New England, but lost to Denver in Week 4.

With seven games to go in the regular season, the Jets have lost six of their past seven games.

"Just got to focus on what's in front of us and beat the Colts [next Sunday at MetLife Stadium], and then get to the bye and sort some things out," Rodgers said. "We got a couple West Coast opponents [the Seahawks and the Rams] coming up, 1 o'clock games, and we got one, two, three division games [the Bills and the Dolphins, twice]. So lots still in front of us."
