Sultana Ocasio has been announced as the New York Jets 2024 Inspire Change Changemaker – an annual award given to local leaders who are making a difference in their community across the NFL's Inspire Change initiatives four pillars of education, economic advancement, police-community relations, or criminal justice reform.
As the Kitchen Director at Food Bank For New York City's Community Kitchen & Pantry, Sultana has been making a difference there since 2018. Sultana is responsible for keeping her finger on the pulse of what families need when they visit the pantry for groceries or what older adults need as they sit down for their first warm meal of the day. She's constantly moving, connecting with neighbors in a way that makes them feel respected and seen.
For over a decade, Sultana has been fighting hunger. She began her nonprofit career at the Muslim Women's Institute for Research and Development (MWIRD), where she served as Executive Director addressing everything from food insecurity to immigrant needs and healthcare access. While at MWIRD, she worked closely with Food Bank For New York City to provide direct service to communities in the Bronx.
Sultana will be recognized at the Jets Inspire Change game on December 22, 2024, against the Rams for her extraordinary work in pursuit of social justice. She will also receive a $10,000 donation from the NFL Foundation, paid directly to a non-profit organization of her choice. Sultana was surprised with a trip to the Super Bowl in New Orleans by Jets players Garrett Wilson and Solomon Thomas when they visited Food Bank For New York City in November for Thanksgiving.
