The Jets didn't get all their injured players back for today's interconference road battle at Philadelphia. QB Sam Darnold, still fighting back from mono, was declared out Friday. MLB C.J. Mosley (groin) will miss his third straight game, fellow starting 'backer Jordan Jenkins (calf) his second.
But the Jets will see the return of first-round rookie Quinnen Williams (ankle) into the defensive line rotation and will array an offensive line composed of two-fifths new starters in front of QB Luke Falk to attempt to sustain drives and put points on the Lincoln Financial Field scoreboard against the Eagles.
With LG Kelechi Osemele (shoulder/knee) inactive, Alex Lewis will make his Jets offensive debut. Lewis arrived in an early August trade with Baltimore and has played in only five special teams plays for the Jets so far. But he made 18 starts with the Ravens, including 10 at LG last year.
And third-round rookie Chuma Edoga will get the start at RT for Brandon Shell, who is also inactive. It will be Edoga's Jets and NFL debut since he's been inactive for two games and was active but didn't play at New England two weeks ago. But Darnold's former Southern Cal teammate did make two starts and play 123 offensive snaps this preseason.
If the OL can give Falk some time in the pocket in his second pro start, the second-year man could finally find some downfield targets, such as WRs Robby Anderson and Demaryius Thomas. The Eagles have been fighting a rash of injuries at their cornerback position, with starters Ronald Darby (hamstring) and Avonte Maddox (concussion/neck) being declared out and backup Sidney Jones (hamstring) being listed as questionable by Philly HC Doug Pederson on Friday.
Additionally, QB Carson Wentz will again be missing WR DeSean Jackson (abdomen) and starting DT Tim Jernigan (foot) will also sit out this game for the Birds.
