Coach of the Week: Brian Logan, West Side HS

The New York Jets announced today that Brian Logan of West Side High School in Newark, N.J., has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, Logan will receive $1,000 to benefit the school's football program, and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

In its 12th year, the award is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Logan is in his 10th season as head coach of the Roughriders. Prior to his hiring, West Side had New Jersey high school's longest winless streak of seven years. The Weequahic Class of '82 alumnus has been a Newark police officer for 17 years.

Last Saturday, West Side defeated Morristown, 12-7, in the semifinal round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA)/Gatorade North Jersey Section II, Group 3 playoffs. The Roughriders will advance to the North Section II, Group 3 championship to play South Plainfield at the Meadowlands on Saturday, Dec. 1.
