Lupus is a life-threatening disease that affects over 1.4 million Americans. But unlike many other chronic autoimmune diseases, most people still don't know what lupus is or how it affects the body. Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect the joints and almost every major organ in the body, including the heart, kidneys, skin, lungs and brain.
