The New York Jets announced today that Dominic Carre of West Hempstead (N.Y.) High School has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school's football program, and he will be presented with a certificate from the New York Jets.
The award, in its 16th year, is given to coaches in the tristate area who serve the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Coach Carre is in his second season as the head coach of the Rams. He previous served separate three- year stints as an assistant coach at West Hempstead and East Rockaway high schools. The East Rockaway alumnus was an all-county fullback and linebacker in high school before matriculating at C.W. Post, where he played outside linebacker. In addition to his head coaching duties, Carre is a dean of students at West Hempstead.
On Saturday, West Hempstead defeated Seaford, 28-20, ending the Vikings' 44-game win streak against Nassau County opponents. The Rams improved their record to 2-0 going into their next home game against the Cold Spring Seahawks on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1:30 p.m.
