The New York Jets announced today that Chris Wagner of Locust Valley High School in Locust Valley, NY, has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week award presented by Chase. Through Chase's partnership, the monetary award to benefit the school's football program has doubled to $2,000. Coach Wagner will be presented with a certificate and award ball. In addition, he is invited to watch the New York Jets play the Buffalo Bills on January 1st in Chase's suite at MetLife Stadium.
In its 21st year, the Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the Tri-State area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Coach Wagner played on the defensive line while attending Holy Cross High School in Flushing, NY. After graduating in 1973, he enrolled at the University of Bridgeport where he played football for two seasons. Wagner is in his 40th season of coaching and first as head coach of Locust Valley High School. Wagner is currently a retired teacher, after 23 years of serving as a physical education, special education and health teacher in the Port Chester school district.
On Saturday, November 5th, the Locust Valley Falcons defeated the Clarke Rams, 21-0, advancing to the Nassau County Conference IV Semifinals. Their next game will be at Hofstra University against the Seaford Vikings on Saturday, November 12th at 5:00 p.m.
