The New York Jets announced Monday they have signed defensive end David Bowens and waived wide receiver Phil Silva. The announcement was made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Bowens (6'3", 265) originally entered the league as a 1999 fifth-round draft selection (158th overall) of the Denver Broncos out of Western Illinois. After a season each with Denver and Green Bay and a brief stint with Washington, Bowens spent six seasons as a member of the Miami Dolphins. In 105 career games, Bowens registered 157 tackles and 26 sacks.

Silva originally signed with the Jets on June 9, 2006, as a rookie free agent before being cut on July 31. He recorded 22 touchdown receptions in four seasons at Division III Rowan University in New Jersey.
