The Jets held their Green & White scrimmage Saturday in front of more than 2,000 fans on another scorcher in Florham Park.

While the defense had the upper hand early, the offense came back after halftime and won the mock game on a field goal from Austin Seibert in the 2-minute period. It was set up by an Allen Lazard catch near the goal line with Brandin Echols in coverage.

"I thought it was awesome," HC Robert Saleh said of the practice. "There were a lot of really cool moments. The offense had a couple of really good drives to start. … Regrouped in the second half and took advantage of every scoring opportunity to show resolve in that matter.

"I think there were a lot of different situations we were able to hit naturally. It came down to that 2-minute drive to win it. The guys got a lot of really good work in, we came out healthy. Some guys cramped, but it was a really good day."

Offense
Aaron Rodgers and the starting offense orchestrated an 11-play drive to start the mock game that resulted in a 37-yard Greg Zuerlein field goal. The offense had first-and-goal on the 8-yard line, but an errant snap over Rodgers' head resulted in a 22-yard loss on third-and-goal.

Rodgers' next possession again looked promising until rookie RB Isaiah Davis fumbled and the defense recovered. That possession was highlighted by Garrett Wilson's 20-yard gain down the sideline on third down with Jarrick Bernard-Converse in tight coverage. Rodgers' perfect throw, however, beat the coverage.

The first-team offense's longest drive, 18 plays, came on the opening possession of the second half. It resulted in a chip shot field goal when Rodgers' pass for TE Tyler Conklin on third down was broken up by LB Jamien Sherwood in the back of the end zone.

"I thought they did a really good job converting, getting positive yards on every play, third-down conversations," HC Robert Saleh said. "I think they had a couple fourth-down conversions and thought, as a whole, the offense did a really nice job."

Despite mustering multiple field goals, Rodgers' group did not find fine the end zone. The only touchdown from Saturday's scrimmage came from second-year WR Jason Brownlee on a deep pass down the left sideline from Tyrod Taylor.

"The corner hit me with a jab, but the safety got too much depth," Brownlee said of the score. "I was wide open going down the sideline, so I just threw my hand up and just hoping he gave me a chance to make a play on the ball."

Saleh added: "Brownlee is starting to come along. I'd say he got off to a little bit of a slow start in camp and he's starting to pick up. It looks like he's getting his legs under him where we are starting to see the speed we saw a year ago."

Defense
After the first-team defense surrendered a field goal to start the scrimmage, all three units tightened the screws, preventing the offense from scoring on its next five possessions.

"The intensity level was there," said LB Quincy Williams, who had a nice practice. "The competition is always going to be there for the most part. Just looking forward to the joint practices [Thursday against Washington]. It's go time then."

A mixed bag of defenders, in terms of position and experience, made plays throughout practice. Rookie CB Qwan'tez Stiggers had a breakup on a long pass to Jason Brownlee, rookie UDFA

DL Eric Watts had a sack, second-year LB Zaire Barned had a sack and a run stuff and fifth-year DL Jalyn Holmes batted a ball down at the line of scrimmage.

Every practice is a learning experience for the starters lining up against Aaron Rodgers, but the teaching point after Saturday's practice, according to Williams, was how to communicate when they're tired.

"That was one of the things that we saw," Williams said. "We kind of got tired and loose on our fundamentals, but that also comes with conditioning and getting into game speed and stuff like that."
