The Jets have placed special teams ace Irvin Charles on injured reserve and signed DB Jaylin Simpson to the active roster from the Colts practice squad.
Charles (6-4, 219) tore his ACL a punt-coverage snap against the Dolphins last Sunday. Charles, nicknamed "The Wolf" on special teams, has 5 tackles on teams this season, tied for the most on the Jets with Chazz Surratt. Charles first signed with the Jets in 2022 as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana (PA). He spent his rookie season on the practice squad before he made the 53-man roster the following year. Charles had a blocked punt in Week 2 against the Titans. He took 214 snaps no special teams and 10 on offense this season.
Simpson (6-0, 179) was drafted in the fourth round of 2024. The Auburn product was released in August and signed to Indianapolis' P-squad. He has not played in a game this season. He played in 47 games (23 starts) for the Tigers and totaled 116 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 21 pass defenses and 7 interceptions. Simpson also took 441 special teams snaps in four seasons at Auburn.
