Jets Place Sauce Gardner on IR; Sign DL Bruce Hector

Green & White Elevate Tre Swilling and OL Zack Bailey for Sunday’s Game vs. Dolphins

The Jets have placed CBSauce Gardner on injured reserve and signed DLBruce Hector to the active roster.

The team also elevated CB Tre Swilling and OL Zack Bailey to the roster.

Gardner (6-3, 190) has been dealing with a hamstring injury since Week 13. The two-time first-team All-Pro has started 15 games this season and has totaled 49 tackles and 9 pass defenses in 880 snaps this season.

Hector (6-2, 296) initially signed with the Jets' P-squad last December. He has played in five games this season and taken 94 snaps on defense while totaling 7 tackles. Before the Jets, Hector played with the Arlington Renegades of the XFL. He also played in three games for the Lions in 2022 and had 5 tackles on 52 snaps. He first signed with the Eagles in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of South Florida and has had stints with the Cardinals (2019), Panthers (2020) and Titans (2021). Hector has played in 16 career games (1 start) and has 11 tackles, 0.5 sacks and 2 QB hits.

Swilling (6-1, 196) signed with the Jets Aug. 2and signed to the practice squad after he was waived. He has played in two games since going undrafted in 2022 out of Georgia Tech, both for the 49ers last season and lined up in 33 snaps on special teams. Smith, from New Orleans, first signed with the Titans before a stint with the Saints (2022) and Ravens (2023-24).

Bailey (6-5, 300) signed with the Green & White's P-Squad after he spent training camp with the Falcons. He was cut Aug. 25. He originally signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2019 out of South Carolina and spent one and a half seasons with the Bucs before practice-squad stints with the Vikings (2020-21), Colts ('21), Commanders ('21-'22) and Chargers ('22-'23). Bailey appeared in one game – Week 13 of the '22 season with the Chargers – and took 4 snaps on special teams.
