The Jets have signed DL Bruce Hector to the active roster and K Anders Carlson to the practice squad. The team also has released K Riley Patterson.
Hector (6-2, 296) signed with the Jets' practice squad on Aug. 28 after he signed with the P-squad last December and was promoted to the active roster on Jan. 6. He was elevated once this season in Week 4 and registered 3 tackles. Before that, Hector had spent the summer with the Jets and played with the Arlington Renegades of the XFL. Hector also played in 3 games for the Lions in 2022 and had 5 tackles on 52 snaps. He first signed with the Eagles in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of South Florida and has had stints with the Cardinals (2019), Panthers (2020) and Titans (2021). Hector has played in 16 career games (1 start) and has 11 tackles, 0.5 sacks and 2 QB hits.
Carlson (6-5, 219) was drafted by the Packers in 2023 in the sixth round (No. 207) out of Auburn. As a rookie, he made 81% of his field goal attempts and 87% of his extra points. The Packers released Carlson on Aug. 27. He signed with the 49ers practice squad on Oct. 15 and was added to the active roster for 2 games before being released on Nov. 5. In the 2 starts, he connected on all 5 of his field goal attempts, including a 55-yarder against the Chiefs, and 3 of 4 extra points. He kicked for 5 seasons at Auburn and made 98% of his extra points and 72% of his field goal attempts.
Patterson (6-0, 190) joined the Jets practice squad on Oct. 30 before being added to the active roster the following day ahead of Texans game. He made all 3 extra point attempts on Thursday night and did not attempt a field goal. Before New York, he signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2021 out of Memphis. He spent the 2024 training camp with the Commanders and was released in August. In the preseason, he connected on 2 of 3 field goal attempts and 1 extra point. In 5 seasons in the NFL, Patterson, who's had stints with five teams, has made 88% of his field-goal attempts (59-of-67) and 96% of extra points (93-of-97). On his 40-plus-yard field goal tries, he is 19-of-25.
