The Jets have signed K Greg Joseph to the active roster, claimed DL Phidarian Mathis and LB Jamin Davis and placed S Chuck Clark and K Greg Zuerlein on injured reserve. The team also waived K Anders Carlson and signed OL David Sharpe to the practice squad.
Joseph, who signed to the P-squad Dec. 24, played earlier this season with the Commanders and the Giants and made 15 of his 19 field-goal attempts. He also made all eight extra-point attempts. Joseph, 30, first signed with the Dolphins in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic but made his NFL debut with the Browns that season before stints with the Panthers (2019), the Titans ('19), the Buccaneers ('20), the Vikings ('21-'23), the Packers ('24) and the Lions ('24). In 74 career games, Joseph has made 82.1% of his field-goal attempts and 90.6% of his extra-point attempts. His career-long 61-yard field goal came with the Vikings in '22.
Mathis (6-4, 312) was selected by the Commanders in the second-round (No. 47) of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Alabama. In his first game, Mathis tore the meniscus in his left knee and spent the 2022 season IR. He went on to play in 23 games for Washington and register 25 tackles, 2 TFL and 1 fumble recovery over 3 seasons. He was waived by the Commanders on Dec. 28. Mathis played four seasons at Alabama and was a starter on the 2020 national championship team and earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2021.
Davis (6-3, 234), a 2021 first-round pick (No.19) by the Commanders out of Kentucky, spent 4 seasons with Washington before being waived and claimed by the Vikings in October. He's appeared in nine games for the Commanders and Vikings this season, recording 18 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, over just 106 defensive snaps. For his career, Davis has played in 54 games (36 starts) and registered 287 tackles, 8.0 sacks, 1 interception and 2 forced fumbles.
Clark (6-0, 209), who joined the Jets via trade in March of 2023, has 69 tackles, 2 pass defenses, 1 forced fumble and a fumble recovery on 12 games this season. Originally drafted by the Ravens in the sixth round in 2017 out of Virginia Tech, Clark played six seasons with Baltimore and totaled 384 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 32 pass defenses, 5 forced fumbles and 5 interceptions. Clark was a sixth-round pick (no. 186) by the Ravens in 2017 out of Virginia Tech.
Zuerlein (6-0, 187), who was activated off injured reserve Dec. 28, was first placed on IR on Oct. 30 and returned to practice Dec. 20. He has kicked in eight games this season and made 60% of his field-goal attempts (9-of-15) and 93% of his extra points (13 -of-14). Last season, he appeared in 16 games, making 92.1% of his FGA (35-of-38) while converting on 5-of-6 kicks from 50-plus yards.
Carlson (6-5, 219), an Auburn product who was a sixth-round pick (No. 207) of the Packers in 2023, signed with the Jets' practice squad on Nov. 7. As a rookie, he made 81% of his field goal attempts and 87% of his extra points. After his release from the Packers on Aug. 27, Carlson signed with the 49ers' practice squad on Oct. 15 and was added to the active roster for two games before being released on Nov. 5. In the two starts, he connected on all 5 of his field goal attempts, including a 55-yarder against the Chiefs, and 3 of 4 extra points. He kicked for five seasons at Auburn and connected on 72% of his field goal attempts and 98% of his extra points.
Sharpe (6-6, 343) was most recently released from the Texans practice squad in November. The fourth-round pick out of Florida in 2017 was drafted by the Raiders and spent one season with the Silver & Black before stints with the Texans (2018), the Raiders a second time (2018-19), Commanders (2020), Ravens (2021-22) and Panthers (2023). Sharpe, born in Jacksonville, has started 6 of the 45 games he's played in and has taken 662 snaps on offense and 160 on special teams.
