The Jets have signed S Jalen Mills and LB Brandon Smith to their practice squad.
Mills (6-0, 200) spent the last three seasons with the Patriots and started in 34 of the 43 games he appeared in. A seventh-round pick out of LSU in 2016, Mills played the first five seasons of his career with the Eagles where he overlapped with Jets GM Joe Douglas. With Philadelphia, Mills started in 49 of the 63 games he played in, and totaled 5 interceptions, 40 pass defenses, 1 forced fumble and 283 tackles.
Smith (6-3, 241) was drafted by the Panthers in the fourth round in 2022 out of Penn State. The former Nittany Lion played in 12 games (1 start) as a rookie before he was released and signed with the Eagles. He appeared in 2 games last season with Philadelphia after he was called up from the practice squad for both games. He took 31 snaps on special teams and none on defense.
Key (6-0, 208), the last pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, totaled 11 tackles in three preseason games before he was released and signed to the Green & White's practice squad. He spent five seasons at Alabama-Birmingham before transferring to Alabama for the 2023 season.
