The Jets have signed CB Nehemiah Shelton and released TE Neal Johnson.
Shelton (6-2, 185) rejoins the Jets after he spent a week with them in late July. In addition, he spent last summer with New York, after going undrafted in 2023, and was a member of thei practice squad in the fall. While at San Jose State, Shelton recorded 195 tackles, 8 interceptions and 32 pass defenses in 45 games. In the 2021 season, he ranked No. 3 in the nation averaging 1.4 pass defenses per game.
Johnson (6-4, 250), after going undrafted, signed with New York on August 12. He joined the Rams in May and was waived in early August. Prior to the pros, Johnson spent five seasons playing for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, playing in 59 games and was an All-Sun Belt Conference honorable mention in 2022. In his final season, Johnson caught 30 passes for 383 yards and 5 touchdowns – including 3 scores over the final 3 weeks.
