The Jets have placed rookie T Olu Fashanu on injured reserve and signed S Jarius Monroe to the active roster. The team also signed K Greg Joseph and DE Kameron Cline to the practice squad, and released TE Neal Johnson from the P-squad.
Fashanu, the No. 11 overall pick in 2024 out of Penn State, started each of the last five games at left tackle in place after Tyron Smith (neck) went to injured reserve. Fashanu made his NFL debut at right tackle in Week 3 against the Patriots before starting the following two games at that spot. After playing exclusively left tackle for the Nittany, he then took 37 snaps at right guard against the Texans because of injury. Fashanu, 22, sustained a foot injury in the fourth quarter against the Rams and took 57 of the offense's 69 snaps.
Monroe (6-2, 205), signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent in May from Tulane, was elevated for three games this season including last Sunday against the Rams and has taken 17 snaps on defense and 28 on special teams. He spent the summer with the Green & White before he was cut and signed to the practice squad. Following the '24 draft, Monroe, who played collegiately at Nicholls and Tulane, transitioned from CB to S with the Jets and got starts at his new position in the final two preseason games. He logged 123 defensive snaps in the three games combined and finished the preseason with 16 tackles.
Joseph played earlier this season with the Commanders and the Giants and made 15 of his 19 field-goal attempts. He also made all eight extra-point attempts. Joseph, 30, first signed with the Dolphins in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic but made his NFL debut with the Browns that season before stints with the Panthers (2019), the Titans ('19), the Buccaneers ('20), the Vikings ('21-'23), the Packers ('24) and the Lions ('24). In 74 career games, Joseph has made 82.1% of his field-goal attempts and 90.6% of his extra-point attempts. His career-long 61-yard field goal came with the Vikings in '22.
Cline (6-4, 283) was most recently with Buffalo's practice squad after he spent the summer with the Bills before he was cut. He first signed with the Colts in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota where he totaled 121 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries for the Coyotes. Cline has played in five NFL games (4 for the Colts) and totaled 3 tackles on 24 defensive snaps. He's taken 34 snaps on special teams.
Johnson (6-4, 250), who went undrafted in 2024 after amassing 101 catches for 1,196 yards and 11 TDs at Louisiana, was waived by the Rams in August and had a short stint with the Jets in August. He signed to the practice squad Dec. 18.
