Jets Practice Report | D.J. Reed: Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson Are in a 'Different Zone'

Third-Year Wideout Continues to Impress; Green & White’s Next Practice Will Be With Pads

Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson's chemistry continues to grow early in camp.

In front of more than 2,000 fans filling the stands at One Jets Drive on NFL Back Together Saturday, the pair connected multiple times in team periods and 7-on-7. The top highlight was Wilson's long touchdown reception down the left side after a double move with D.J. Reed in coverage.

"It's been a battle," Reed said of his matchups with Wilson. "Today he ran a route on me, he ran a sluggo [slant and go] and he got me, but I'll just say that 8 [Rodgers] and Garrett are on a different zone right now. … Their chemistry, they're doing stuff on the go. They're running a certain route, but if you over pursue, they're running another route. They're in a different element, but it'll ultimately make me better."

Wilson, who focused on improving his speed this offseason, showed off the wheels on a short pass to the sideline where he got by Reed and took off for a big gain.

"He moves different, but I think it's more than that," Reed said. "People don't give him enough credit for how smart he is. He watches film. He'll run a certain release and then know how I played it, so the next day he'll run that release and do something else off of it. It's like a chess match. … He has a toolbox, so I think that's what separates him."

The No. 10 overall pick in 2022 is a smooth operator and fiercely competitive. He went over to the defensive sideline after an incompletion and started chirping at a group of players.

"He's an electric personality," head coach Robert Saleh said. "You guys saw him today, he gets fiery. As big a smile as he has and he gets into a competitive battle, it's what makes all these guys special. He flips a switch and becomes something that's completely different. As long as he continues to come out here and do his best every day, I think the sky is the limit for him."

Reddick Return?
Head coach Robert Saleh was asked about a report by Josina Anderson saying that talks with the Jets and Haason Reddick have "progressed positively" and that Reddick's presence is approaching.

"Until he's here, he's not," Saleh said. "But it's good to hear though."

Reddick racked up 27 sacks for the Eagles in 2022-23 before being acquired by the Jets in exchange for a conditional 2026 third-round pick.

Last Practice Without Pads
Saturday's practice was the team's final workout of its acclimation period. The Green & White has a day off Sunday before returning to the field Monday for the first session with pads of the summer.

"I'm looking forward to pads because that's where O-line and D-line can start to fine tune everything we're looking for from a run game and protection standpoint," head coach Robert Saleh said. "Then defensively from a run-fit standpoint. When pads come on, you can get more precise in what you're trying to achieve as a player and a coach."
