It took the Jets (5-12) a quarter to get warm, but they never looked back once they did in their 32-20 win over the Dolphins (8-9) at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
The Green & White forced 3 turnovers, scored 15 points and three players hit career milestones in the second frame that catapulted the home team over its division rival and sunk the Dolphins' chances for a postseason berth.
"All the work that's been put in by those men in that locker room and all the adversity they had to face on and off this field and everything they've been through, it's really cool to have that moment," interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said. He added: "This is an opportunity just to celebrate this team and finishing it the right way was big, for all of us."
The Jets' first score, and lead, came from Aaron Rodgers' 500th regular-season touchdown pass. Rodgers, who finished the game with 274 yards and a season-high 4 passing touchdowns, climbed the pocket with pressure from the outside and found TE Tyler Conklin wide open in the middle of the end zone. That was Conklin's fourth TD of the season, a career high.
"It was kind of like an old school red-zone touchdown, like we did for so long in Green Bay, where kind of play breaks down, move up in the pocket guys keep working," Rodgers said after the game. "It was fun to get Conk that one. Conk is one of the good guys on this team, one of the guys you can count on. He's a natural leader, and from Day 1, he made me feel really welcome. You need your best players to be your best people, and he's definitely one of them."
Conklin said of the score: "It's pretty cool. I grew up a Green Bay fan. I grew up watching Aaron. I went through the process [thinking] I'm in a contract year this year, Aaron is going to be here, I get to play with him for the season, am I going to be smart enough to do all the stuff he does and how is it going to work out? Then the season doesn't go how we planned and there's been ups and downs. For it to all come together, win the game and for me to catch that ball, it's special. It's obviously something I'll tell my kids about."
With the Green & White leading, 7-6, S Ashtyn Davis intercepted Dolphins QB Tyler Huntley on a deep ball on the ensuing possession and the offense took over on its 10-yard line. Davis, starting for the injured Chuck Clark, again intercepted Huntley with less than a minute left in the first half. The pick occurred in the end zone and stopped a scoring drive.
"Just trying to make the plays that come to me," said Davis, who co-led the team with 9 tackles. "We knew the ball would be in the air, we knew they would try us and just tried to make the most of it when the ball came my way."
Ulbrich said of Davis: "So happy for him. It's hard in the NFL being a role player. He does have exceptional talent and for him to get out there, get his opportunity and make the most of it, like he usually does, it's really cool to see."

The Jets' third turnover of the quarter (they had four in the game) came between Davis' interceptions. Haason Reddick and Will McDonald IV met at Huntley and Reddick forced the fumble that LB Quincy Williams recovered. Rodgers connected with Allen Lazard three plays later and Breece Hall's successful 2-point conversion gave the Jets a 15-6 lead at the half.
Other than Rodgers becoming the fifth player in NFL history to reach at least 500 touchdown passes in the regular season, wide receiver Davante Adams eclipsed 1,000 yards for the fifth straight season on a 30-yard gain in the second quarter and Braelon Allen's 8-yard run gave him the most rushing yards for a player under 21 years old in NFL history.
Garrett Wilson, who entered the game with 97 receptions, registered catch No. 100 in the fourth quarter on a 9-yard reception. He became the second Jets player to reach 100 catches in a single season (Brandon Marshall, 2015).
Rodgers also threw TD passes to Adams and Hall.
Huntley, who started for Tua Tagovailoa (hip), helped his team claw back and made it a one score game, 25-20, in the fourth quarter with a TD pass to TE Jonnu Smith, but Hall secured the victory for the Jets on their following series. With 2:30 remaining, Hall gained 17 yards on third-and-6 that put the offense in goal-to-go territory. He scored on a 6-yard catch-and-run two plays later.
With the win, the Green & White finished third in the AFC East.
