The Jets (3-9) raced out to a 21-7 lead over Seattle, but the Seahawks (7-5) scored the game's final 19 points in the Green & White's 26-21 loss Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. While the Jets dropped their third consecutive game, the 'Hawks extended their win streak to three games.
After the Jets built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with touchdown receptions from WR Davante Adams and RB Isaiah Davis, the Seahawks chipped away and held the Jets scoreless for nearly three quarters before Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet's 8-yard scoring run put the visitors in front, 26-21.
The Jets defense extended Seattle's game-winning drive with 4 penalties and the team had 12 marked-off infractions for 83 yards. Set up with fourth-and-6 on the 'Hawks 33-yard line, the defense was flagged for too many men on the field as Xavier Gipson lined up deep in return position. Rookie CB Qwan'tez Stiggers was penalized for pass interference on the following play, DT Solomon Thomas had a horse-collar tackle on fourth-and-1 at the NYJ 33 and edge Will McDonald had a neutral zone infraction.
"I'll take full blame for that," interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said of the too-many-men-on-the-field penalty. "Initially, we thought the punt team was coming out, so our punt-return unit went out and then they decided to go for it on the fourth [down]. We have to be better at communicating that across the board. So accustomed to signaling towards the guys near the ball that you forget sometimes that the returner is back there and that's unacceptable.
"I have to look at every single one of those penalties. See if they're real, not real, what caused them. It's not okay, it's not acceptable, it's not our standard. Penalties ultimately extend drives and we can't let that happen."
With one final possession, the Jets offense marched to the Seattle 29-yard line before Seahawks DT Leonard Williams took down Aaron Rodgers on third down. Rodgers' pass to Garrett Wilson on fourth-and-15 sailed long and hit the end-zone turf as the Jets fell to 3-9.

Adams, who finished the game with 5 catches for a team-high 66 yards, gave the Jets a 6-0 lead (missed PAT) with an 8-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. It was the Jets' first time scoring first in a game since Week 6 against the Bills.
RB Kene Nwangwu, who forced a fumble on the ensuing kick return that led to Davis' first NFL touchdown, extended the Jets' lead to double digits with a 99-yard return score following Seattle's first TD (12-yard pass from Geno Smith to TE AJ Barner). It was his first return with the Green & White after he was called up from the practice squad Saturday and the fourth return TD of his career.
Rodgers, who completed 53.8% of his passes (21 of 39) for 185 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT, had a chance to perhaps give the Jets an insurmountable lead in the second quarter after Nwangwu's return.
Jets K Anders Carlson recovered a muffed ball on the Seahawks 38-yard line on the ensuing kickoff. Rodgers, five plays later, missed an open Garrett Wilson near the corner of the end zone for a score that would have given the Jets a 28-7 lead. Instead, Williams picked off Rodgers on the next play and ran 92 yards for the score, cutting the lead, 21-13 (Quinnen Williams blocked PAT).
"I tried to throw it inside, the wind was blowing consistent," Rodgers said of the miss to Wilson. Maybe I should've thrown it a little flatter because he was wide open. I have to hit that. It doesn't matter if it's windy, I've played in wind before. It was inconsistent, but I have to hit that."
He added of the pick-six: "I kind of read behind the right guard, couldn't see him [Williams]."
The Jets were held scoreless in the second half as Seahawks K Jason Myers' two field goals cut the lead before Charbonnet delivered the final blow.
